Fitness should never be a limiting factor in your fulfilment.
Our aim is to get you fit enough to do whatever you want, whenever you want. We don't chase aesthetics — that's a side effect. We care about capability.
Why adventure fitness
Very few adventure companies invest in getting you ready.
Sign up for a guided Matterhorn trip and you'll likely see a line or two saying “turn up fit.” What does that mean? How do you train the right way to build the aerobic fitness for long days, the strength for climbing, and the robustness for the elements?
Whether you're training to climb K2, trying to get your first 6b, or simply want to hike your first mountain — fitness is a critical component. We'll get you there in a way that makes sense for your life.
We don't chase aesthetics. That's a side effect. We care about capability.

How we train
What actually makes you ready for adventure.
01
Mental resilience
The number one aspect of adventure fitness. Read any adventure book and you'll find adventurers are mentally tough and able to endure extreme environments for days on end. It can't be forged in the gym — you must get outside and into the elements as often as possible, come rain or shine.
02
Aerobic endurance
Too many coaches place all emphasis on strength training. A few box step-ups can't compensate a lack of aerobic capacity. Look at the best alpinists and uphill athletes — they all have incredible aerobic gas tanks that sustain them for long efforts day after day.
03
Strength & mobility
Strength training prepares your body to endure intense sessions without injury and improves performance. Powerful legs make hiking feel easier. A powerful back lets you pull harder when climbing or kayaking. As we move through the year, we shift focus toward strength endurance and power.
04
Structured progression
We'll constantly push you to have goals — big and small. We don't care what they are so long as they motivate you. We like running goals: the most accessible exercise you can do and directly complementary to hiking, long treks, and expedition work.
What we don't care about
Aesthetics over performance
Eat well, follow our programmes, and you'll get into better shape without trying. But that's never the goal.
Extreme diets
The enemy. Rigid routines and carnivore-diet extremism stop people enjoying their lives. We don't do that.
Hours in the gym
The gym has its place, but we'll push you to train how you'll fight — outside, in the elements, building adventure-specific fitness.
The coaches
People who actually do this stuff.

Joe McEachron
Lead Fitness Coach
Joe joined Jove Club as a founding member and was quickly brought in to lead coaching. With 10 years of industry experience, he's worked with professional football clubs, commercial gyms, schools and physiotherapy practices — and was recently recognised by the London Standard as one of the 30 best trainers in London. His training background stems from a love for the outdoors: running, strength and power work, and mobility. He now leads all fitness coaching at Jove Club. If you've met Joe, you'll know how infectious his passion for helping people is. He loves climbing, running, and getting involved with every club activity.
Freddie Sankey
Founder & Coach
As founder of Jove Club and a former Royal Marines officer, Freddie's point of difference is his genuine understanding of London life — demanding hours, competing priorities — and how to build fitness around it. Having completed one of the hardest military training courses in the world (fewer than 30 people pass each year), his speciality is endurance, building a resilient body, and forging a mindset for hard challenges. He's a qualified Mountain Leader and working towards the highest mountaineering and climbing qualifications. Favourite activities: climbing, trail running, mountaineering, and motorcycling.
What people say
From the people who show up.
“Jove are fantastic. I've been going to their weekly strength sessions at Battersea Park for a couple of months now and I've felt my confidence and strength for mountaineering and trail running come on in leaps and bounds.”
Alex
“The regular adventure challenges add purpose to the training in London and the people in the club are top quality. Instead of failing to be consistent in the monotonous gym grind I'm now being trained by a marine to become fit enough to conquer any terrain.”
Harry
“Before Jove, I never really thought of myself as a runner — I'd only ever run for buses or flights. But within weeks of joining, I was running 5Ks, then 10Ks, and now, after a couple of months, it's started to feel surprisingly natural.”
Vevek
“I have attended fitness and climb sessions and would really recommend Jove. Accessible and tailored to your fitness but with plenty of challenge and very social!”
Sioned
“Great and welcoming atmosphere, the PT was very knowledgeable and provided alternative exercises.”
Elin
“Great sessions which are well planned and adaptable to fitness levels. Welcoming atmosphere.”
