Walking in the Scottish Highlands

Bespoke trips · Four people or more

Your group, your dates, your adventure.

Get four or more of you together and we will build the whole thing around you. Same instructors and the same standards as every trip in our calendar. You choose where, when, and how comfortable you want it, from a bunkhouse weekend to a lodge with a chef.

The idea

Most groups never book the trip they talk about.

Somebody suggests it, everyone agrees it sounds brilliant, and then one person is left trying to find accommodation for nine people, work out whether the route is sensible, and chase deposits off a group chat. That is where it dies.

So hand it over. You get the people together and pick a rough window. We find the place, plan the route, book the beds, take the money and put instructors in front of you on the day. You turn up and enjoy it like everybody else in the group.

It can be as basic or as bougie as you like. That is genuinely up to you, and it is the main thing we will ask about.

Who does this

A milestone birthday

A 30th, a 40th, a 50th. Two days doing something hard and a long dinner afterwards beats a party nobody remembers.

A stag or a hen that is not one

Same group, same weekend away, none of the matching shirts. Among the most common things we are asked for.

A group of friends

People who have been meaning to do this for years and need somebody else to make it happen.

Families

Three generations, very different fitness levels, one trip that works for all of them. We plan around the slowest person, not the fastest.

Clubs and teams

Running clubs, climbing walls, university groups, anyone with a list of names and a shared idea of a good weekend.

A few colleagues

If a company is paying and it is about the team, our corporate programmes are built for that instead.

Company paying? See corporate programmes.

Basic or bougie

Three ways to do
the same weekend.

Same places, same instructors, same days out. What changes is everything that happens once you have finished for the day, and that is what moves the price more than anything else.

The simple end

Straightforward

A bunkhouse or a hostel, you drive yourselves up, everyone cooks together in the evening. Instructors with you all day, the same ones who run everything else we do. The cheapest way to do this properly, and the way most groups go.

The middle

Comfortable

A good cottage or a country inn. Your own room, a bed you want to get into, dinner booked somewhere decent. Lifts from the station if nobody wants to drive, bags moved on if you are going from one place to another.

The other end

No expense spared

A lodge with someone cooking for you. A driver, so nobody is navigating a minibus at the end of a long day. An instructor for every two of you. A photographer who sends you the pictures afterwards. Dinner in the sort of place you would book for a significant birthday. If you can describe it, we will price it.

Mix them. Plenty of groups want a serious objective and a hostel, then one proper dinner on the Saturday night. Others want the lodge and an easy walk. Nothing on this page is a package, so ask for the combination you want.

What you can do

Anything we run, run for you alone.

Every trip in our calendar can be run privately on your dates, and we build plenty of things that have never been in the calendar at all.

Hiking and wild camping

Big days out and a night under canvas if you want one. The easiest thing to build a first bespoke trip around.

Scrambling

Hands on rock, ropes where they are needed. Tryfan, Crib Goch, the Snowdonia classics.

Rock climbing

Single pitch for beginners, multi pitch for anyone who already climbs indoors and wants to get outside.

Winter skills and mountaineering

Crampons, ice axes, avalanche awareness. Scotland, January to March. Kit included.

A named challenge

The Welsh 3000s, the Lake District Skyline, the Scottish 4000s. We run these on fixed dates too, and we will run one for your group alone.

Navigation and skills

A weekend that leaves everyone able to plan and follow a route on their own. Popular with groups who want to go off and do their own thing later.

Trail running

Point to point days with the logistics handled, for groups who would rather run it than walk it.

Caving

A day underground in Yorkshire or south Wales. Works for groups who want something memorable without a long walk in.

The Alps, or further

Summer alpine weeks, hut to hut traverses, a via ferrata trip. Longer lead time, and worth it.

Something that is not on this list? Ask anyway. Plenty of what we run started as one line in an email, and we would rather hear an odd idea than a safe one.

How it works

From half an idea to a trip.

01

Send us the brief

The form at the bottom of this page. Five minutes, and half an idea is enough. You do not need to know where you are going.

02

A call, twenty minutes

One of you is the organiser and we only need to speak to you. We will ask who is going to be at the back, who is fussiest about where they sleep and who is hardest to get out of bed, because those three decide more than anything else.

03

A plan and a price

Usually inside a week. One number per person, everything in it, with the choices we made and the ones we would change if your budget moved.

04

You say yes

A deposit holds the dates, the instructors and the beds. Pay it all in one go, or we send everyone in the group their own link. Balance before you travel.

05

We do the rest

Route, risk assessment, accommodation, kit list, a briefing call for the whole group a fortnight before, instructors waiting for you when you arrive.

How the price works

No price list, because there is no fixed trip.

Five things move the number, and you control all five:

  • How many of youThe biggest one. Instructors and vehicles cost the same whether four of you come or ten, so every extra person makes it cheaper for everybody.
  • WhereA weekend in Snowdonia and a week in the Alps are not close to each other.
  • How many nightsTwo, three, or a full week.
  • How comfortableA bunk in a shared room, or a lodge with someone cooking.
  • How much we organiseGuiding only, or transport, food, extras and the lot.

You get one number per person with everything in it. A deposit holds your dates and the balance is paid before you travel. Tell us a budget on the form and we will tell you honestly what it buys, including when it does not buy what you have described.

Always included

  • ✓Instructors, qualified for whatever you have asked to do
  • ✓Route planning, and a recce first if we do not already know the ground
  • ✓Risk assessment and full insurance
  • ✓Accommodation found and booked by us
  • ✓A kit list, and loan of the technical kit where it makes sense
  • ✓A briefing call for the group before you go
  • ✓Someone of ours reachable the whole time you are away

How much notice we need

  • A UK weekend: eight weeks, and three months is better. Good accommodation goes early.
  • Winter in Scotland: ask in the autumn for the following January to March.
  • The Alps or abroad: four to six months.
  • Short notice: ask anyway. Sometimes it works, and we would rather tell you no quickly than have you not ask.

Why four people

An instructor, a vehicle and a weekend of planning cost the same no matter how many of you turn up. Below four, the price per person gets hard to justify and you are better off on a date in the calendar, where other people carry the same costs with you. Six to twelve is the sweet spot. More than that is no problem, we put on more instructors.

Tell us what you want

Send us the brief.

Only your name, your email, how many of you and the last box are required. Leave the rest blank if you do not know yet, that is what the call is for.

How comfortable do you want it

Not a price list. It tells us what to build, and we will tell you straight if the thing you want costs more than that.

A reply within two working days. No automated follow-ups, no sales calls you did not ask for.

Scrambling in Snowdonia

Not got the group together yet?

Send the brief anyway and we will give you something to put in the group chat: a place, a weekend and a price per person. Easier to get four people to agree to that than to an idea.
