Expedition: Scottish Highlands - Level 1: Highland Hootenanny

Eight days. Five regions. Every kind of adventure Scotland has.

Mountains. Wild camping. Trail running. Sea kayaking. Whisky in Oban. This is the best week of your year.

Most people take a week off work and spend it somewhere warm, eating, drinking and doing very little. They often ruminate on all their worries rather than forget them.

There is nothing wrong with that type of holiday - but how many of those do you actually remember?

There is a different way to unwind - one that you won’t forget quickly...

Where you wild camp on a clifftop on the Isle of Skye with the Outer Hebrides on the horizon. Where you summit mountains in Glencoe that look like something from a film. Where you run along coasltines so remote and so beautiful that the people can’t believe it’s in the UK. Where you spend two days in the wilderness of Torridon, summiting remote mountains with everything you need on your back.

That's the week we're offering. Eight days in the Scottish Highlands. The most complete adventure trip we run.

It’s Jove Club’s signature adventure.

What People Said Last Time…

“It was an amazing trip last year! If you’re thinking about booking it, do it!” - Harry

The Eight Days

This isn't an itinerary we put together in an afternoon - it’s based on years of exploration across the Highlands along with meticulous planning to make it all happen.

Day 1 (Aug 1): Glasgow to Glencoe

Meet as a group in Glasgow at midday. If all runs smoothly, we’ll do a very short but very beautiful hike before we do a supply run in Fort William. Afterwards, it’s into Glencoe - one of the most dramatic valleys in the UK. First night we’re at the Red Squirrel Campsite which is the perfect place to warm up before camping in the wild, followed by dinner at the Clachaig Inn - the most famous pub in the Scottish Highlands, usually with a live band, plenty of beer and great food.

A proper welcome!

On Saturday Night, we’ll go to the Clachaig Inn

A very famous and highlands pub in the heart of Glencoe!

Day 2 (Aug 2): Glencoe Adventures

Glencoe is home to some of the most dramatic peaks in the UK. We'll spend the day on the mountain - Bidean nam Bian or a comparable objective depending on conditions.

All the mountains in Glencoe are epic. This is our opportunity to get into adventure mode. We’ll spend a quieter evening in the Clachaig Inn before an early start the next day.

Glencoe’s Mountain Pass is Legendary

We’ll spend a day out enjoying one of these epic mountains.

Day 3-4 (Aug 3-4): Isle of Skye Exploration

Day 3: We’ll pack up camp early, have breakfast on the road on our way to Skye. We’ll have a more relaxed day taking in some of the stunning sights like the Storr, Portree, the Quiraing. Skye's northern landscapes are unlike anything else in the UK - it feels like being on another planet.

That evening - our first wild camp. We’ll be having dinner on the cliffs of the north coast with views of the Outer Hebrides. Expect sunrise from your tent with the Atlantic on the horizon.

Old Man of Storr

Skye’s full of natural wonders! We’ll spend our first day visiting a few before our first wild camp.

Day 4: The highlight of the trip for many people. We pack up camp and make our way south via some more sights (we leave it slightly open depending on weather!) before doing Freddie's favourite running route.

A short trail run along Skye's southern coastline past pristine beaches and through terrain so beautiful that past participants said how we undersold just how special this place is. This is not a training run - it’s exploration.

We’ll get some fish and chips then head to Torridon hostel to prepare for the expedition.

Skye’s Coastline is Magical!

Weather pending… you’ll enjoy an epic sunset and a stunning sunrise.

Pristine Beach En Route to the Point of Sleat

Everyone agreed we had undersold how spectacular this run is…

Day 5-6 (Aug 5-6): Torridon Expedition

This is the centrepiece of the trip. Two days in the wilderness of Torridon - one of Scotland's most remote and ancient landscapes - carrying everything you need on your back. Beinn Alligin and Beinn Eighe are among the finest mountains in Scotland. The overnight wild camp between the two days is something most people have never experienced.

This is what we’ve worked towards starting from the campsite in Glencoe! You’ll be feeling confident and ready to truly head into the wilderness.

At this point, we’ll be a team of people working together.

If the weather looks favourable, we’ll have the option for a sunrise ascent of Beinn Alligin (the 2nd mountain).

We’ll head out for a celebratory dinner in Applecross before heading back Torridon hostel to recover.

Starting the Expedition

At this point, we’ll have refined our camping skills and be ready for the wild.

Day 7 (Aug 7): Coastal Adventures

Recovery morning, then sea kayaking on the pristine waters of Lochcarron. No experience required - the kayaking is beginner-friendly by design. The setting is not beginner-level. Pristine sea loch, surrounded by mountains.

We’ll stay in the hostel at Kintail and go for a big dinner likely at the Glenelg Inn.

Lochcarron Kayaking

Learn to kayak on a wild sea loch.

Day 8 (Aug 8): Oban Celebration

We make our way to Oban for some whisky tasting and a celebration dinner and a night out. Eight days of shared adventure earns a proper send-off.

Plenty of Time for Social

Social is a key element of the trip - a time to reflect on the highs and lows, the tough parts and everything we’ve achieved.

Day 9 (Aug 9): Return to London

The Cost

£1,150 per person. At £143 per day - it's the most complete adventure trip we run.

Deposit of £250 secures your place. Balance due 60 days before departure. Payment plans available on request - **please read our booking terms

Transport: Using a transport provider and looking after drivers would make this trip prohibitively expensive. Furthermore, it would deny us the flexibility we need.

Participants share the cost of hired vehicles for the trip - typically £180–£250pp depending on group size. This is a private arrangement between participants, not a commercial service. We’ll confirm exact costs and coordinate everything once the group is confirmed. Total all-in cost: approximately £1,330–1,400pp.

Travel insurance is not included - please arrange your own.

Self-Driving Makes This Adventure Possible…

Having our own transport (i.e. without using a coach company) is key - the vehicle becomes our base, allows us to be flexible and makes the trip affordable.

Who is this for?

This adventure is an INTERMEDIATE level trip but is well within reach for most reasonably fit people.

You don’t need to be super fit - but you do need to be able to string days of strenuous effort together in all conditions.

Some experience in UK mountainous areas should be fine, but let’s break it down:

  • Running - all runs will be short in distance and at a slow, conversational pace. The purpose of the runs is not to ‘train’ but to explore! Not only does much of the wildest terrain in Scotland prevent us running at a consistent and fast pace, we’ll take lots of breaks and stops to admire the views!

  • Hiking - we don’t hike quickly - there’s no need. We’re not racing or in a huge hurry to get through it. We’ll break lots to enjoy the experience and the jaw-dropping landscape! The only thing you will need to consider is that you’ll have to carry camping gear (your tent, sleeping bag, food for 2 days etc.) during the Torridon phase of the expedition.

  • Camping - camping experience is certainly preferable, but the trip by its nature is progressive. We’ll use the first couple of days to get you used to camping in the relative comfort of a campsite with amenities. We’ll then do a wild camp on Skye relatively close to the road followed by a night to reset in accommodation, before culminating on the expedition.

  • Kayaking - this aspect is totally beginner friendly. No experience required.

  • Endurance - this is what makes this trip intermediate! August is generally a good time of year to go to Scotland weather-wise but as I’m sure you can appreciate, there’s a good chance it will rain at some point! So the biggest requirement is to be able to endure the elements for multiple days.

Still unsure? Get in touch at hello@thejoveclub.com and let us know your experience.

A Final Word From Jove Club’s Founder

"This is a really special trip. It was our first week-long adventure and the one I was most excited to take people on (and still is!). Scotland is a magical place. The landscape is dramatic. The coastlines look like they belong to somewhere far more exotic. Too few people living in the UK go and explore the wilderness.

I’ve been to a lot of wild areas and I still maintain that there aren’t many as dramatic and truly epic as the Highlands.

This trip scratches the surface of some of the best places!

Many people come to Jove Club to meet new people and make new friends. I can tell you that a week of what could be challenging shared experience will bond people above and beyond any pub night, run club or surface level office environment.”

- Freddie Sankey, Founder of Jove Club

One Last Thing…

A lot of work goes into making this trip happen - once it’s full, that’s it until next year!

This is not an overly-commercialised trip we can just constantly churn out and nor would we want to.

It’s a highly curated experience which we want people to remember forever.
