The Skyline Briefing

Lake District Skyline Traverse, November 2026

Wednesday 14 October, 7.30pm30 minutesOnline, with Freddie

What this is

Thirty minutes on a video call about the Skyline Traverse, three weeks before we go. Freddie goes through what the challenge day is actually like, from the 5am headtorch start to the pub in Coniston at the end of it, and then answers whatever you want to ask.

This one is on because the traverse makes people nervous, and it should: 30km and 2,000m of ascent is a long day out. The first question almost everybody asks is whether they are fit enough, and that is a much better question to answer out loud, honestly, than in a paragraph on a webpage.

If you have already booked, come anyway. A good half of it will be pace, kit and what to eat, which is more use to you than to anybody else, and the people still deciding will learn more from your questions than from anything we could write.

Cameras off is completely fine and you do not have to say a word. If you cannot make the time, sign up anyway and we will send you a write-up the next day.

What we’ll cover

  • What the challenge day actually looks like, from the 5am start to dinner
  • How fit you need to be, and what "no cut-off" means in practice
  • What happens if you are having a bad day on the hill
  • Kit, what matters and what you can get away with borrowing
  • What to do with the three weeks between the call and the trip
  • Your questions, for as long as they take

The Skyline Briefing

Wednesday 14 October, 7.30pm

30 minutes on a video call. Free, and no obligation to book anything.

Just so Freddie knows who he is talking to. It does not commit you to anything.

Freddie will answer it on the night without saying whose it was. If you would rather not speak at all, this is the way to be heard.

Can’t make the time? Sign up anyway and we’ll send you the write-up the next day.

Freddie takes notes during the call so he can write up the answers afterwards. Nothing is recorded, nothing is shared word for word, and the write-up never names anyone.

The trip leaves on 5 November, so there are three weeks after the call to book, sort your kit and get a few good training weeks in.
