About this trip

Mountains. Wild camping. Trail running. Sea kayaking. Whisky in Oban. This is the best week of your year.

Most people take a week off and spend it somewhere warm, eating, drinking and doing very little. How many of those do you actually remember? There is a different way to spend a week — one you won't forget quickly. Wild camping on a clifftop on the Isle of Skye with the Outer Hebrides on the horizon. Summiting mountains in Glencoe that look like something from a film. Running along a coastline so remote and so beautiful that people genuinely can't believe it's in the UK. Two days in the wilderness of Torridon with everything you need on your back.

It will probably rain at some point. Scotland in August is spectacular but it is not the Mediterranean. The Torridon days are the most demanding part — two days carrying your kit across serious mountain terrain, with an overnight wild camp in between. For anyone who's spent a few days in the hills, it's very achievable. That's what the first half of the week builds you towards. The kit list tells you exactly what to bring so you're prepared for all of it.

At £1,150 — £144 per day — this includes eight nights of accommodation, Mountain Leaders for every guided day, eight shared meals, sea kayaking, an Oban distillery tour, and every logistical decision taken off your hands. For context: our weekend trips run £300–£450 for 2–3 days at a similar daily rate. This is eight days of Scotland for the same cost per day. The vehicle hire for moving through Scotland (up to £250pp depending on group size) is shared and not included — we'd rather you know the full picture now.

Highlights

  • 8 days across 5 regions: Glencoe, Isle of Skye, Torridon, Applecross, Oban
  • Bidean nam Bian in Glencoe — the highest peak in the valley at 1,150m
  • Wild camp on Skye's north coast — dinner on the cliffs, sunrise over the Atlantic
  • Trail run along Skye's southern coastline — the most consistently praised day on the trip
  • Two-day Torridon expedition — Beinn Alligin and Beinn Eighe with overnight wild camp
  • Sea kayaking on Lochcarron — beginner-friendly, the setting is not
  • Welcome dinner at the Clachaig Inn, Glencoe — live music, proper Highland pub
  • Oban distillery tour and celebration dinner
  • Maximum 7 people — one group, one vehicle, eight days together

Itinerary

Meet in Glasgow and drive north. A hike in the Nevis Range above Fort William — a good opener and a chance for the group to find its feet — then into Glencoe. First night at the Red Squirrel Campsite. Dinner at the Clachaig Inn — the most famous pub in the Scottish Highlands, usually with a live band, good food, and a lot of atmosphere. A proper start.

What's included

  • Mountain Leaders personally selected by Freddie for all Glencoe mountain days and the full two-day Torridon expedition
  • Eight nights accommodation: Red Squirrel Campsite, Glencoe (nights 1–2), wild camp on Skye's north coast (night 3), Torridon hostel (night 4), wild camp on the Torridon ridgeline (night 5), Torridon hostel (night 6), Kintail hostel (night 7), Oban (night 8)
  • Breakfasts at all hostel stays
  • Eight shared meals at Scottish inns and restaurants — including the Clachaig Inn welcome dinner and the Oban celebration dinner
  • Sea kayaking — all equipment and instruction included, no experience required
  • Oban distillery tour and whisky tasting
  • WhatsApp group with Freddie before the trip — kit guidance, fitness prep, the group forming before you arrive
  • A trip gift — something worth having that you can also use on the trip
  • Seven months of route planning, logistics and provider sourcing — Freddie runs every element from start to finish

Not included

  • Travel to Glasgow and back from Glasgow at the end
  • Vehicle hire for the week — shared equally across the group (up to £250pp depending on final group size)
  • Personal kit and camping equipment
  • Lunches and any meals outside the eight pre-booked group meals
  • Travel insurance — please arrange your own before departure

Good to know

  • £1,150 per person — £144 per day, with Mountain Leaders, eight nights accommodation, eight shared meals, sea kayaking and a distillery tour all included.
  • Maximum 7 people — the whole group travels together in one vehicle. Above that number the dynamic changes. We chose to keep it smaller.
  • 3 of 7 spaces remaining. Departure in 6 weeks. This trip won't run again until summer 2027.
  • Not sure if this is the right level for you? Message Freddie before booking — he'd rather answer that question now.

Physical requirements

Rated intermediate because of the cumulative effort across eight days — not because any single day is hard. The hiking is unhurried. The trail running is at a conversational exploration pace. The kayaking is completely beginner-friendly. What makes this trip intermediate is simply the duration: eight days back-to-back, including two nights of wild camping. The Torridon days are the most demanding — carrying a pack across serious mountain terrain — but even those are achievable for anyone who's done a few hill days before. If you run occasionally and have walked in the hills, you're ready.

Meeting point

Glasgow city centre — exact meeting point confirmed in the WhatsApp group in advance. Trip ends back in Glasgow on Aug 9.

A note from Freddie

I've run this route before and I know what it delivers. The Skye coastal trail run is my favourite running route in the UK — I put it in because I wanted people to experience it, not because it fit neatly into a schedule. The Torridon section took the most planning: two consecutive mountain days with an overnight wild camp between them requires the right guide, the right sequence, and a contingency for the weather. Beinn Alligin and Beinn Eighe are not famous mountains in the way that Ben Nevis is famous — most people have never heard of them. They're better for it. The Applecross dinner after the Torridon expedition is one of the best meals you'll have anywhere, because of what you did to earn it. This is the most complete trip on the Jove calendar. I designed it to be. — Freddie Sankey, Founder

What people said

Super varied in all senses — from gales to warm sunny beaches and challenging climbs to chill pub nights. It is a great sample of Scotland and a quintessential Jove experience.

The best decision I made in 2025 was booking this Scotland trip. Reading the itinerary, I could tell it was the most unique, well-rounded Scotland trip on the market — but I had no idea it would be that special. Moving from one epic location to the next, building skills and testing yourself, all as part of an amazing group, made it the most incredible week away. I made friends for life, walked away with new skills and experience, and already have two more Jove Club trips booked for the year.

It was an amazing trip last year! If you're thinking about booking it, do it!

Common questions

Before you book

Am I fit enough for this?+

Probably yes. No single day on this trip is harder than beginner level — the hiking is unhurried, the trail run is at an exploration pace, and the kayaking requires no experience at all. What makes it intermediate is the eight days back-to-back. If you run occasionally and have done a few hill days, you're well placed. The Torridon section is the most demanding part — two days carrying a pack in remote terrain — but it's achievable. Not sure? Message Freddie before booking.

Can I come on my own?+

Most people do. The majority of Jove bookings are solo — the group comes together on day one and tends to stay in touch long after. You won't feel like an outsider.

What happens if the weather is bad?+

Scotland in August is spectacular, and it will probably rain at some point — that's part of it. We always have backup plans and we'll never put anyone in harm's way. If conditions rule out a particular route, we find something equally good. The trip won't be cancelled because of rain.

Do I need to bring wild camping kit?+

Yes — this trip includes two nights of wild camping in remote terrain. We send a full kit list when you book with everything you need.

How do I get there?+

Most people fly or take the train to Glasgow — we meet at Glasgow Central on the morning of day one. A few people drive and we help organise car shares. Full logistics guide sent when you book.

What's the group size?+

Maximum 7 people including Freddie. It's a small group by design — everyone gets proper attention and the dynamic is closer to friends on an adventure than a guided tour.

Do I need previous experience with Jove Club?+

No previous Jove trips required. If you've done mountain days before and are comfortable with multi-day physical challenges, you're ready. This is an intermediate trip — achievable for most reasonably fit people.

After taking on the Welsh 3000s challenge with Jove Club I can highly recommend Freddie and his team! Having someone you can trust to guide you through a challenge like this is so incredibly valuable (especially when the Welsh weather isn't on your side). The team of Mountain Leaders and support team that Jove Club put together were fantastic. Even as the weather turned savage they kept spirits high. It was great to be with like-minded individuals for the weekend. Thank you team Jove 🏔

I was nervous about taking on the Welsh 3000s challenge. I was right to be nervous. It turned out to be the most incredible experience I've ever had! Principally because of the supreme organisation of Freddie, Fran and the Jove Club, who instructed, supported, encouraged, fed, guided and protected me for the entire gruelling 51km, up and down the Welsh peaks in gale force winds, horizontal rain, no visibility and the dark. I loved every minute of it. I could not have completed this as a group of friends on our own. Freddie's skilled navigation (in the dark), mountain expertise, and clear leadership ability made this terrifyingly enjoyable. What hurts most are my cheeks from smiling for 21hrs. I didn't realise I could complete this challenge. What the Jove Club has showed me is I'm actually made of stronger stuff than I thought. Drying out my boots for next year!

I did the Welsh 3000s challenge with Jove Club and absolutely loved it!! Freddie and the team organised everything so well and it was brilliant to be amongst friendly, adventurous people looking to push their limits. I really enjoyed doing something genuinely testing, with the weather, distance and elevation all playing their parts, and at the same time being part of a really supportive group with Jove giving a real sense of confidence and positivity. Jove Club offers loads of different activities and adventures, I'll definitely be signing up for another one soon. Thanks Freddie, Fran, the Mountain Leaders and all those on the challenge 🏔

I had the best time on the Jove weekend trip to the Peaks. Got there and they helped set up my new tent — very friendly from the off. Zero judgement across the weekend for anything. It was about learning the skills needed to thrive outdoors, without any of the judgement you get with some providers. It gave me my confidence back outdoors, and I've booked onto my next trip already.

Jove are fantastic. I've been going to their weekly strength sessions at Battersea park for a couple of months now and I've felt my confidence and strength for mountaineering and trail running come on in leaps and bounds. Their trips are incredibly good fun and genuinely valuable. Can't recommend highly enough — wish I'd joined sooner!

Enjoyed a wonderful weekend of hiking, camping, trail running, navigation & fitness sessions (and some cracking pubs, pie & pizzas!) in the Peak District with a group of wonderful people. We all had different levels of previous outdoor experience & all were catered for. Thanks to Freddie & the Jove club team for leading us safely & challenging us.

I joined a Jove Weekender Trip to the Peak District for the weekend and had an amazing time! Freddie & the team were very welcoming and knowledgeable and it really gave me confidence to try and do more hiking in the future! I'll definitely be joining for some of the London sessions and hopefully a future trip. Would thoroughly recommend!!

Huge shout out to Freddie for sorting out the winter skills training in the Cairngorms. We had an extremely knowledgeable instructor who took us through everything we needed to know about Scottish winter! I had a great weekend away and the group really topped it off as a stand out trip. Would also highly recommend the weekly social bouldering sessions in London.

I could not recommend Jove Club enough for anyone who wants to get outside, explore the country and test their physical and mental limits. I've done things in the past year I would never have done myself, with an amazing group of driven, friendly and kind people — and it's been an absolute blast.

I had such a great time on the Peak District climbing trip! Having joined for their London bouldering sessions for a couple of months, it was great to put my new skills to use outside. We had an amazing instructor who made me feel so at ease. The group was great fun — everybody was so positive and supportive of each other. Can't wait to join more trips next year!

I did the Welsh 3000s challenge with Jove Club in July and it was unreal. Freddie is a fantastic leader — he makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome. Looking forward to my next Jove Club adventure!

Before Jove, I never really thought of myself as a runner. But within weeks of joining, I was running 5Ks, then 10Ks. My first proper test was our Brecon trek — two days, 35km, 1,300m of elevation. It was brutal, but it was also the moment I realised how much the people around you shape the experience. Jove isn't just about getting fitter — it's about pushing your limits in a way that actually feels fun.

I love Jove Club. On paper, I had everything I needed to be happy, but it wasn't until I joined Jove that I realised something was missing — adventure! It's so easy in London to get stuck in a rut. Jove gets me out of the house with like-minded people and gives me things I didn't even realise I was missing. Join, you won't regret it.

I went on the Peak District Climbing adventure not knowing any of the group but felt immediately welcomed by everyone. The group was very supportive given my lack of any prior climbing experience and definitely pushed my limits. The trip itself was extremely well organised — everything was covered from food and instructors to what gear to bring. Immediately came home and booked myself on another adventure!

I had an absolutely incredible experience on a walking adventure weekend with Jove Club! From start to finish, everything was brilliantly organised. Freddie's enthusiasm and leadership created such a positive, welcoming atmosphere — making the weekend about more than just the hike. If you're looking for a well-organised, exciting outdoor experience with great company, I can't recommend Jove Club enough.

Can't express enough how glad I am that Freddie has created Jove Club! The recent Brecon trip was epic — a tough challenge that we all pushed through. In only a couple of months I've made significant strides towards my fitness goals. The regular adventure challenges add purpose to the training in London and the people in the club are top quality.

The Peak District climbing weekend was meticulously planned by Freddie and Jove Club. I felt a massive sense of achievement on the Sunday afternoon walking off the crag. If you are considering a weekend away with like minded people to push yourself beyond your comfort zone then I wouldn't hesitate recommending Jove Club.

The mix of classes — in particular the run and fitness sessions outdoors — is absolutely amazing and unlike anything else I've found in London. The sessions are inclusive of mixed ability but with enough challenge for everyone. Really look forward to putting my fitness to the test during one of the trail runs and adventure trips!

Joining Jove is the best thing I've done for my fitness and health this year. Anyone looking to get fit, get outdoors and meet great people — this is where it's at. In just a few months I've met some great people, built confidence, and lost 3kg whilst getting stronger and running faster.

Jove is the missing piece of London life. Such a welcoming and friendly club with a fantastic range of activities.
